A sturdy double-walled box with a heart-shaped clasp and a magnetic lock.

A small box with a sturdy construction. The inside is smooth with no protrusions. The front and back walls are double: the second layer hides the joints and stops warping.
The clasp has small parts that can be fiddly to insert, but once assembled it holds well. My 4-year-old daughter tested it for 3 days and the heart clasp survived.
Painting: paint the plywood sheet with black acrylic, quickly sand off the lint, engrave and cut. Paint the engraved parts black again, sand harder where you want it lighter, apply rosewood glaze, sand again and assemble. Finish with fine sandpaper and a light layer of rosewood with a sponge.
The magnetic lock needs 2 round magnets 3 mm in diameter, no thicker than the material. The size can be changed in any vector editor, for example free Inkscape.
